Muffins, those small, delightful cakes, have become a beloved treat, particularly the American-style muffins, which are made using baking powder rather than yeast. Unlike their English cousins, which we’ll explore another time, these muffins are quick, easy, and versatile — ideal for any gathering, kids’ party, or school snack.
American muffins, as we know them today, have deep roots in American culinary history. As settlers experimented in their new environment, they found that using leavening agents like baking soda and baking powder, instead of yeast, allowed for quicker baking with minimal effort. This opened the door to countless flavor combinations, as fruits, berries, and nuts could be added to the batter, making muffins a creative and versatile option for any occasion.
This time, I opted for blueberry muffins since they’re my child’s favorite, but feel free to swap them for raspberries, or even experiment with cinnamon and chopped apples for a fall-inspired twist. The beauty of these muffins lies in their light, crumbly texture, and the fact that they are easy on the stomach — even picky eaters will be thrilled!
